Financial Aid Program
PROJECT: VetRelief provides emergency financial assistance to eligible Veterans, service members, and qualifying military-connected family members experiencing a recent, unforeseen hardship. Our goal is to help stabilize households facing a temporary financial crisis by providing support for essential needs.
This program is intended to offer short-term relief during urgent situations and is not designed for ongoing or long-term financial support.
Who This Program Helps
PROJECT: VetRelief may be able to assist individuals who are:
- Honorably discharged Veterans
- Active-duty service members
- National Guard or Reserve members
- Eligible immediate family members receiving military benefits
Eligible Types of Assistance
Assistance may be available for qualifying emergency needs such as:
- Housing costs (rent or mortgage)
- Utilities (electric, water, gas, etc.)
- Emergency transportation expenses (not including car payments)
- Critical medical expenses not covered by insurance
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for assistance through PROJECT: VetRelief, applicants must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
- Military Connection
The applicant is a Veteran who received an honorable or general (under honorable conditions) discharge, is currently serving on active duty, or is an eligible immediate family member receiving military benefits. - Florida Residency
The applicant currently resides in Florida and has maintained Florida residency for a minimum of 120 consecutive days. - Financial Stability Prior to Hardship
Prior to the current hardship, the household was generally able to manage monthly income and expenses and meet basic financial obligations. - Recent and Unforeseen Hardship
The applicant is currently experiencing a recent, unexpected event that has resulted in a temporary financial hardship.
Please note: Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee assistance. All applications are reviewed on an individual basis and are subject to program guidelines and available funding.
Before You Apply
Supporting documentation is required to complete your application. Applications cannot be reviewed or processed until all required documentation has been received.
The online application typically takes up to 30 minutes to complete. For the fastest processing time, applicants are strongly encouraged to upload documentation during the application process.
Required Documents
Applicants must provide documentation to verify eligibility and confirm program guidelines are met. Examples of commonly accepted documents include:
Proof of Military Status (one required)
- DD-214 showing Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) discharge, or
- Active-duty orders or valid military ID, or
- Other official documentation confirming military service or dependent eligibility
Proof of Florida Residency (one required)
(Document must show a current Florida address and be in the name of the service member or qualifying family member.)
- Florida driver’s license
- Florida State ID
- Copy of lease
- Mortgage statement
- Utility bill
- Voter registration card
Proof of Household Income
(Most recent documentation.)
- Pay stubs
- VA benefits letter
- Social Security award letter
- Unemployment documentation
- Other proof of current household income
Proof of Hardship
Documentation showing what occurred and when it happened, such as:
- Medical bill
- Repair estimate
- Court documents
- Funeral arrangements or death certificate
- Documentation of an unexpected expense
Proof of the Expense for Which Assistance Is Requested
- Current bill, statement, or ledger showing amount due, due date, and payee information
- If applicable: disconnect notice, late notice, or past-due statement
Additional documentation may be requested based on individual circumstances.
Important Program Notes
- PROJECT: VetRelief assistance is generally limited to one-time support per applicant/household.
- Bills more than 30 days past due may not be eligible for assistance.
- Applications involving active foreclosure or eviction proceedings may not be accepted.
